Re: To the MasterWorks Theatre Company 2006/Favorite Game/Favorite Song

Dearest Suzie,

Sorry for the late reply!

I love many worship songs, but a couple that are on my mind are:

1. How Great is Our God
(Chorus - How Great is our God, sing with me 'how great is our God', for all will see 'how great, how great is our God'...  name above all names... you are worthy of all praise.  My heart will sing, 'how great, is our God')

2. I have come to love you (Martin Cooper, Paul Oakley (c) 1999 Thankyou Music
(Chorus - I love to sing your name, To speak about your fame, You're worthy of my praise...)

3. Holy Holy (Nathan Fellingham (c) 1995 Thankyou Music
(Chorus - Lift up His name, with the sound of singing, Lift up His name, In all the earth, Lift up your voice, And give Him glory, For He is worthy to be praised)

4. Thank you for the Cross (Aaron Spiro (c) 2002 Birdwing Music
(Chorus - Thank you for your precious blood, That flowed for my sin. Jesus, Jesus, Thank you once again)

Will see you soon :)

Can't wait!

Love & blessings,
Irene

five days and counting!

I'm so looking forward to the start of MasterWorks!

I just spoke with John Kirby, and he's looking forward to working with you on your monologues, so brush up on those.

I'm afraid I'm way behind on my email and somehow this costume note from Jennifer Matthews dropped deep and just surfaced:

Theatre should bring the following clothing items with them for Midsummer Nights Dream.

Men:
Fitted Boxer shorts or bike shorts
“Wife Beater” style sleeveless tank top (Fitted) – no logos
Leather sandals/Salt water sandals (if you have them)

Women:
Body suit/Leotard (flesh, pink or white) or sports bra & bike shorts/jazz shorts/spankies
Leather sandals/Salt water sandals (if you have them)
Nylons/Stockings-skin tone (optional)

Personal make-up kit

Hello, Everyone!!

I can't wait to meet all of you!!  My name is Staci Skiles and I'm in total agreement with Rich and Sarah that 'Sound and Movement' is a great game.  This past year I learned another cool game called 'What are you doing?'  I'll attempt to explain - Person A pantomimes some kind of activity.  Person B asks 'what are you doing?'  Person A answers with the name of an activity completely different from what he/she is pantomiming.  Person  B then pantomimes the activity Person A said and the whole process starts over again.  The two people keep going until one of them goofs and then someone else steps in for the one who goofed.  The whole goal is to not pause and not repeat an activity.

I pray for safe and smooth travels for all of you!  I know the Lord is going to do great things during the coming month.  I'm so excited !!

in Christ,

Staci

Rich Swingle here.  I'm directing the theatre program for MasterWorks, and I'm so looking forward to working with each of you!  I echo Harvey's thoughts about this being a life-changing month.

As faculty send you emails we'll be posting them to our blog: RichDrama.com/MasterWits.  So if you need to see what's been written in the past you can go straight to that site.

Harvey requested clothes you don't mind getting dirty.  I would add that they should be clothes you can move in.  They shouldn't restrict a full range of motion.  Jeans and dresses don't work for rehearsals.

Also, I imagine that MasterWorks administration will give you other requests and requirements.  Please follow those to the best of your ability.  The one that's coming to mind is that you'll need something nice to wear to the concerts each Friday or Saturday (your choice).  And of course you'll want a Bible.

To allow us to get to know each other before we arrive on campus, I'd like each of you to let us know what your favorite game is.  It can be a theatre game, board game, or any kind of game.  If it requires equipment, I hope you'll bring it along.

My favorite is Sound & Movement.  Participants present their own unique and abstract sound and movement, which is followed by the group.  There are numerous variations, each touching on new elements of discovery.  Each form allows us to feel more comfortable with who we are as individuals and as a group.  Bleaeoooowwww!  (I'm flailing my legs, since my fingers are engaged in the very non-abstraction of typing.)

In Christ alone,
Rich

I am excited  in anticipation of this summer's festival.  By way of introduction my name is Harvey Johnson and I will be serving as one of several faculty and the Director of "A Midsummer's Night Dream."  Several of you I know from last summer, most of you this is our first connection.  May I join with those who are welcoming you to what will be for many, I dare say all of you a life changing experience.  This communication comes to give you some preparatory direction as we move toward our time of doing theatre and growing in our relationship with Him.  At the center of the various activities in this summer's schedule will be rehearsals for our production of the Bard's romantic comedy.  May I encourage you to get a copy of the play and read it.   We will be reading and auditioning the play in our first session.  In your reading consider the character work you would like to do and work to get as much understanding of the play as possible. Pay particular attention to one of the monologues which will be apart of your audition, (you need not memorize it). I am using the The New Folgers Library Edition of the script which has much notation and information.  Also prepare your body and voice with exercise and stretching.  Make sure you bring plenty of clothes for rehearsal and studio work that you're not afraid to get dirty.

Thanks for your decision to develop your gifts under His Lordship.  I encourage you to join with myself, Rich and the others on the theatre staff in our commitment to honor His Lordship in the Theatre. Please feel free to ask any questions or voice any concerns to me or to Rich.

Re: To the MasterWorks Theatre Company 2006, May I introduce myself

Hi peoplez  :)

Over here!!!  *waves* from Newcastle, Australia.

I'm really looking forward to next Saturday (when I arrive)!  But am so very tired right now... which means... the thought of playing games seems like a huge challenge (and at the same time a huge luxury).  :)

(Would appreciate some prayers re: rest & recovery pls.)

Still, I'm absolutely fascinated by improv games like "There and back again", and the one wherre you yell out "STOP".  One of the improv highlight (on stage) from MWF 2005 involves Rich acting as an "Ostrich"! :D

Have also been introduced to Apples to Apples as of 2005.  It is potentially addictive, and... I'm ready for more!!

Alrighty :)  Signing off here.  Looking forward to gaming with you!

Bless bless,
Irene

How very fun to read of all your games!  I'm sure there are more to come and many opportunities to put them into practice.

I once played the Lord of the Rings version of Trivial Pursuit.  I was two pies ahead of anyone else and had one to go when the black rider struck me down.  I put a reminder in my Treo to email my friends exactly one year later and tell them I had a pain in my shoulder.  I actually did!

Looking forward to working with each of you!

Hey guys. My name's Brandon, and I've been counting down the days. My favorite theatre game is called 007Bang!, which I can explain to anyone who will listen. Outside of the theater, I love the game Apples to Apples with a voracity that is kind of scary.
Blessings!

Hey Everyone!

My name is Jessica Long, and I am looking forward to Masterworks for a month! I have too many favorite games to name them all, but I love improv games. One of my favorites is called "story book," it's fun but very hard to explain.....so I may just have to explain it when I get there. I also love Balderdash (the board game). Anyway, I can't wait to meet you all!

Hello, everyone! My name is Sarah Keyes and I'm very excited about meeting you
and seeing several of you again in a few weeks! As for favorite game, I'm with
Rich on the Sound and Movement one, although my "normalized" friends here at
school just give me strange looks whenever I suggest or describe it...so I
don't get to play it too often! The answer that I usually give to this
question is Clue, because I love mystery novels, and even though there really
aren't any surprise endings to a Clue game (unless you've mixed up the cards
and come out with two rooms and a weapon--no person!), it usually creates a
fun atmosphere for the players.

May God be with you as He continues to prepare you in the coming weeks!
