Two extaordinary nights
On August 17, 1945, the internment camp in Weihsien, China, where Eric Liddell had been held, was liberated. On Thursday night, August 17, 61 years later, I got to perform my play about Eric Liddell for the family of David Michell. His book, A Boy's War, about his time in the internment camp with Eric, was the basis for the last quarter of my play. He died a few years ago, but his entire family was able to attend. Pictured here, from left to right, are Joan Michell with their three children: Ken Michell, Robin Serez, and Judith MacLeod.

A Boy's War is a true story of a boy in China in a Japanese concentration camp during World War II. Yet it is an account more about children and their adventures than the atrocites of a deathcamp. And it includes glimpses of Olympic Gold Medalist Eric Liddell not included in Chariots of Fire.
